Even if I like the Ghibli's styling more than the Quattroporte's, I'll still respect anyone that buys one of these luxury boats over an S-Class.

The Quattroporte competes with the Panamera. The S-Class competes with the Bentleys/RRs/A8/LS600h.

Two very different demographics.

I don't want to call you a liar but …..

The S-class & Quattroporte are about a inch apart in every dimension …

& while the base models might be 10k apart (92k vs 102k) the sporty versions both start at 140k.

The Panamera on the other hand is a fair amount shorter (most importantly in the wheelbase, a full 1o inches).

You were probably right with the previous gen Quattroporte, But I'm pretty sure they aimed this one squarely at the S-class to go for those huge sales increases they want.

Thats not what i meant. Im saying the Quattroporte and panamera are aimed at rich guys who also like driving. The S-Class, LS600h, A8, and Bentleys are for rich guys who want to WAFT. Its two entirely different customer bases. Its like the difference between a Jetta GLI and the base Camry. Similar size, and price, but very different demographics.

And, furthermore, at this price range, features matter, but brand cache matters more and the Quattroporte, while nice, simply isnt an S. Nor do they have a significant dealer structure to support a large expansion of their sales.

I get what you're saying but I still think my statement stands.

IMO your saying something like the Model S, Panamera, are S-Class are different cars appealing to different people, which is very true. BUT you've also got know that when the Panamera & Tesla came out they stole some sales from the S-class.

In the same way that when the Zune came out, it stole some sales from the iPod. There is only one car that defines that class.

Im not saying that the competitors are not legitimate cars, I'm saying that the traditional S-Class buyer, isnt looking for driving dynamics or driving excitement. Nor are they looking for maximum value on spec sheet. They are looking for Gravitas. Something that the alternatives have, just not in spades.

Valid point, as in the S-Class will always be the S-class.

Kinja'd!!!

BUT I WILL STILL RESPECT THE PERSON WHO BUYS A QUATTROPORTE.

Fair enough. I just pity that they bought the wrong car. ;)

Lol wrong car?! Thats like saying the Mulsanne is the wrong car compared to a Pheaton. Some people just rather drive than be along for the ride.
